This is the norm for him though oxygen isn’t a daily thing. That’s only when he’s just not getting relief with meds alone and this morning happened to be one of those times. This is the life of a kid with Chronic Lung Disease, the term given to him by his pulmonary specialist at Children’s Hospital which he says is the term used for “severe asthma that is not able to be managed or controlled”. It’s the only life my son has known since he was 5 months old and we’ve all adapted quite well. We have enough medications and medical equipment to run a small hospital around here, all of it going on vacation with us next week as well. This is also the reason we’ve never strayed too far from home when taking vacations as my son is petrified of being hospitalized somewhere else, like last summer. That’s okay with me. I don’t care if we have to stay in our backyard. Wherever we are, we always have fun and lots of laughter and to me, that’s the only thing that matters.

Yep, you’re right. It’s the love and laughter that really matter. There are a lot of physically healthy kids in toxic situations, and love and laughter rarely visit. It’s nice to have both kinds of good health, but if I had to choose, I think I’d rather have love and laughter. What a handsome boy…

I hope this isn’t my comment twice. My internet disconnected as I hit the submit comment button.
Round 2
Your son is beautiful. I read the incident “like last summer” and how frightening. My mother suffered severe asthma which could be brought on by so many of her allergies, they are horrific memories for me when I was a child to watch her suffer.
Your son is blessed to be surrounded by so much love from his family!
Best,
Lisa

He is a handsome young man with the spirit of a warrior and a tender heart…I just know it. Right?
It takes a very extraordinary person to live with “the extras” of life. Love and blessings to your son and you.

This looks like a book cover photograph. It’s a great picture. I’m sorry it is the norm for him (and the story of what happened is incredibly scary!!!!) You have a great attitude about having fun!
