When my 9 yr. old gets an idea in his head, he does not let it go until he sees his idea through. Last Monday, he said he wanted archery lessons. I made the necessary noises to appease him but gave it no more thought. At dinner on Tuesday, he brought it up again.
“I want archery lessons”, he said.
“Why?”, I asked.
” Because we’re learning about indians and they used a bow and arrow. I want to learn how to use one, too”, he said, very serious.
“You shoot at a target in archery, not animals”, I pointed out.
“I know”, he sighed, rolling his eyes. “But I want to do it and I’m going on the internet and researching it”.
“Great idea. Let me know what you find out”, I said and continued with my dinner thinking that was the end of that subject.
Wrong.
An hour after dinner, my son came looking for me.
“Here”, he said, handing me something that he had printed on the printer. He researched archery and had found a place close to us that offers free archery lessons and even supplies the bows and arrows. Now, here it is Saturday and my son has gotten his archery lesson. Even his dad and brother decided to do it , too. Everyone had a great time and we’ll be going back again next week. Everyone agreed that Owen’s idea was a great one, even me. I guess it’s a good thing I’m not a squelcher of ideas, especially that of an insistent 9 yr. old.

What a motivated little guy! He’s gonna become a mover and a shaker! I tried archery once at a Renaissance Festival and it was not as easy as I thought it was gonna be! Kudos to him!!

Wow, no procastinating for him. That is wonderful at how persistent he is and to even find lessons that close by, we should all be as motivated as him……imagine!
Great shot!
Best,

You’re a great mom for not squelching his ideas and encouraging him (even though you thought reluctantly so, lol) to research, then find lessons for something he wanted to do!

The best part of the whole thing is that it’s free. When I told Chris what you did, he asked why we never do stuff like that. I told him it was because we just don’t have extra money to be able to do the extra things. Then you said FREE! Owen is my hero for not only finding the information he searched for, but discovering something so cool that doesn’t cost anything!
Have I told you lately that I love that kid?

Great Capture as well.

What a wonderful shot and good for you both for finding something new and fun to enjoy together!
That’s a great foundation you’re helping him build. Go, Owen!

That is awesome! Way for him to know what he wanted, and to do the work to figure out how to do it. And yay for you following through after he did all that work!
Great story!
